Since my last post about the balloon ride, I have come to realize that there is much concern among people with tinnitus about flying. It seems that many of you are postponing vacations and leisure trips for fear that the flight will make your tinnitus worse.
I have had tinnitus for over ten years now and have flown numerous times in that time frame. I too had my concerns before my first trip. However, I have never experienced any change in my tinnitus as a result from any airline flight.
If you also suffer from hyperacusis, as I do, I might suggest that you invest in a pair of noise cancelling headphones for your trip. They can do wonders when it comes to alleviating the effects of sound sensitivity. However, cancelling out the exterior noises can put more focus on your tinnitus. I found that using them to listen to music was very relaxing and took my focus off of the ringing. Because they cancelled out the unwanted noise, I was able to hear the music much better which resulted in a more pleasurable experience, regardless of my tinnitus.
Take your trip! It is just the kind of medicine you need to help take your focus off of your tinnitus. Do not let tinnitus stop you from enjoying life. Plan your trip, take your trip, enjoy your trip and create some good memories. It will be well worth it.
